ICAO Council prohibits Lithium-ion cargo shipments on passenger aircraft

The 36-State ICAO Governing Council adopted a new aviation safety measure which prohibits, on an interim basis, all shipments of Lithium-ion batteries as cargo on passenger aircraft.
The Council’s decision will be effective 1 April 2016. It pertains only to Lithium-ion batteries shipped as cargo on passenger aircraft, and not to those contained in personal electronic devices carried by passengers or crew. It comes subsequent to extensive reviews undertaken by the ICAO Air Navigation Commission, and the UN agency’s Dangerous Goods, Flight Operations, and Airworthiness panels.
The prohibiting of Lithium-ion cargo shipments on passenger aircraft has been eagerly awaited by aircraft manufacturer and pilots associations, which have been the most vocal advocates for the new safety measure.

مجلس الإيكاو يحظر نقل شحنات أيون الليثيوم على متن طائرات الركاب

اعتمد مجلسُ الإيكاو، الذي يضم ٣٦ دولة ويعد من الهيئات الرئاسية للإيكاو، إجراءً جديداً خاصاً بسلامة الطيران يحظر مرحلياً نقل جميع بطاريات أيون الليثيوم في شحنات على متن طائرات الركاب.
وسيبدأ سريان قرار المجلس في 1 أبريل 2016. ويقتصر نطاق تطبيق هذا القرار على بطاريات أيون الليثيوم المنقولة كشحنات في طائرات الركاب ولا يشمل بطاريات أيون الليثيوم المستخدمة في الأجهزة الإلكترونية الشخصية التي يحملها الركاب أو طاقم الطائرة. وجاء هذا القرار بعد عمليات استعراض واسعة أجرتها لجنة الملاحة الجوية و ثلاثة من أفرقة خبراء وكالة الأمم المتحدة المتخصصة في الطيران، وهي تحديداً فريق خبراء البضائع الخطرة وفريق خبراء عمليات الطيران وفريق خبراء صلاحية الطائرات للطيران.
