The Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by General Civil Aviation Authority and the Government of Guyana initiated an Air Services Agreement in parallel with World Aviation Forum (WAF) 2015 at the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Headquarters in Montreal, Canada.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and H.E. Mrs. Annette Ferguson, Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Annette Ferguson in Guyana.
The Memorandum of Understanding sets on the basis of open skies the legal framework within which both countries enable an unspecified number of national carriers which are assigned from both countries to carry out regular flights on any tracks, in any capacity and in any type of aircraft whether owned or leased by the carriers assigned to all the points.
The parties agreed to appoint air carriers of both sides to carry out regular flights between the two countries. The United Arab Emirates selected Emirates, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia and flydubai as national carriers; while the Government of Guyana will set the national carrier at a later time.
