• Total transit traffic growth of 115% and increase of European transit guests by more than 178%
• For the first time in the history of "Saudi Arabia" the number of guests of international flights exceeds the domestic sector
Saudia has achieved a huge and unprecedented leap in traffic between the continents of the world and the Kingdom during the last year 2018 compared to the previous year.
The operational performance report of last year’s transit traffic recorded a growth rate of more than 115% compared to 2017, which reflects the success of the operational plans of the national carrier in the development of this sector through optimal fleet investment and expansion in international operation by increasing the seat capacity of destinations that are witnessing intensive travel traffic and launching new international destinations, launching effective marketing programs, and ambitious operational plans to expand the investment of transit traffic between the continents of the world through the Kingdom's airports.
The growth of transit traffic on the Saudia network included most of the world's continents. The number of guests who have been on Saudia flights from their European destinations to their destinations around the world has increased by more than 178 per cent over the past year in addition to the increase in the number of guests from Saudia stations in Asia and the Pacific to many destinations in other continents with a growth rate of 178%.
The North American continent ranked third with 154% growth in transit traffic, followed by the Middle East with a growth rate of 144% The Indian continent grew by 98% and 77% from the stations of Saudia in Africa.
Since the beginning of 2016, Saudia has developed the efficiency of transit traffic programs within the objectives of the transformation program. In the next year 2017, it achieved a growth of 70% compared to the previous year, achieving a great leap over the past year by more than 115%. For the first time in the history of Saudia since its establishment, the number of guests on international flights during the last year exceeded the number of guests in the domestic sector, which reflects the achievement of the objectives of the national carrier to expand international operation and strengthen its position among international airlines and increase its share in the international transport market. The operational performance report for the past year revealed the transportation of more than 17 million guests in the international sector out of the total number of 34 million guests transferred during the year to achieve the desired objectives; the transformation program and the Strategic Plan (SV2020), which includes a series of ambitious programs and initiatives to improve efficiency ,operations and increasing the market share of Saudi Airlines.
