Eng. Maryam Al-Balooshi is the first Arab expert in the field of Aviation Environment started in 2006, to become the founder of Aviation Environment in UAE and the region. One of the First expert in the world seconded to the Department of Environment in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO-UN) in 2010. UAE Official representative in the Committee of Aviation Environment Protection (CAEP-ICAO) since 2016, Elected as CAEP Vic Chair in Oct 2023. Regional Chair and founder of Aviation Environment committee since 2010. State Lead Negotiator for Aviation Climate Change and State COP member since 2010. Environment Manager at the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of United Arab Emirates since 2010.
During her work she leaded the formation of The First UAE Environment Policy endorsed by all the aviation and UAE governments in 2012, Lead the drafting and approvals of UAE Aviation Climate Change position document. lead the GCAA Sustainability Strategy project approved in Jan 2014. Appointed as a chair of the environment committee of the Arab civil aviation Commission (ACAO- 2010-2014). Eng. Maryam chosen (2010-2012) to be the regional representative in Committee Civil Aviation Environment Protection (CAEP) report to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). A permanent member in UAE delegation to Unite Nation Framework for Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC). In 2021 she lead the idea of the establishment of UAE Low Carbon and Sustainable Aviation Fuel Committee which was endorsed by the PMO in 2021, lead today by the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. UAE Ambassador for “Clean Skies for Tomorrow- Sustainable Aviation Policy Tool Kit” Lead by UK Gov and World Economic Forum- 2021 and launched in COP26. Appointed in Nov 2021 as Aviation Environmental Committee Chair for the region (ACAO). She lead the formation of Aviation Net Zero team which announced the official UAE Aviation Net Zero Resolution in ICAO in Oct 2022 to be the first sector in UAE.
Prior to her appointed as Environmental Manger in the GCAA she held the position of Environment Manager of Dubai Airports Company. Ms. Al-Balooshi holds an Engineering bachelor in Chemical Engineering and a Master Degree in Environmental Science. In June 2020 she became a board member of College of Engineering- UAE University.
In March 2015 Maryam received, Arab Women Award- as a Young Talent. The Middle East Leadership of Excellence Award- Leader in Aviation from the American Association of leaders endorsed by GCC Economic Chamber- 2015. In 2019 she were selected by USA State Department and with the Endorsement of UAE Ministry of Foreign Affair to represent UAE in “International Visitors Leadership Program- Empowering women in STEM and Art.
Maryam is an Author launched up to date 8 books. A Columnist in Al Khaleej newspapers since 2013 (published 350+ articles). A Co- Founder of “Dar Molhemon” for book publishing in 2016. A Calligraphist, she has been selected to participate many times in Sharjah and Dubai International Calligraphy exhibitions among the most professional calligraphers in the world. She worked as an advisor (volunteering) for Marsam Mattar and Artist Mattar bin Lahej 2014- March 2018. In 2020, selected by Van Cleef and Arpels for the first time ever in their history to introduce a calligraphy artwork based on the region’s values marrying their values as well introducing “The flowers of Values” artwork. In 2021 Collaborated with BMW in creating a story art work to present the limited edition of X7 for UAE 50 Anniversary.
