Safety: A Top Priority
Safety is AACO’s top priority. The organization has always been an advocate for the highest safety standards in the industry, supporting national, regional, and international initiatives which aim at improving aviation safety.
All stakeholders are striving globally to continuously improve aviation safety, which is fueled by the strong collaboration in that area between all stakeholders who are working on regional and global levels to implement the ICAO Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP) and the ICAO Global Aviation Safety Roadmap (GASR).
ICAO Middle East Regional Aviation Safety Group
AACO is closely working alongside all stakeholders in the framework of ICAO Middle East Regional Aviation Safety Group (RASG-MID). The Group works on enhancing safety in the region and reducing safety incidents and accidents by identifying Safety Enhancement Initiatives and developing Detailed Implementation Plans for those initiatives. In addition, the group started lately to work on enhancing State Safety Programmes development and implementation, and is looking into the establishment of a Regional/Sub-Regional Safety Oversight Organization(s), and into collaboration in Accident and Incident Investigation on the regional level.
The issue of flight tracking came under the spotlight in 2014 following the tragic disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. AACO was keen on addressing this issue in its AGM Resolution 7/2014 on Safety and Security and has been advocating the importance that airlines are aware of the position of their aircraft at all times in order to avoid the occurrence of a similar accident in the future.
