Peter Baumgartner was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways in May 2016.
Peter leads the core airline operation, and is responsible for over 14,000 employees in 121 countries. This covers all strategy, planning and commercial functions, as well as flight, airport and cargo operations, corporate and aviation security and UAE national pilot development.
Prior to his appointment as Chief Executive Officer, Peter served as Chief Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways from 2009. This role saw him lead the airline’s global commercial strategy and planning function and oversee Global Sales, Marketing, Guest Experience and Guest Services, Call Centres, e-Commerce and Etihad Holidays. He was also the guiding force behind the airline’s brand and customer strategy, including its loyalty programme Etihad Guest.
He has a wealth of experience in aviation, having held a number of senior roles within Swiss and Belgian aviation industries, including high-level positions at Swiss International Air Lines.
Peter completed his Matura in Mathematics and Science at MNG in Zurich, Switzerland. He holds a Federal Degree in Transportation Management from Zurich’s IST and is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS).
